Kamla Persad-Bissessar urged the nation Sunday to always put God in the forefront of their endeavours if they want to succeed.
She was speaking at an Interfaith service hosted by the United National Congress (UNC) at the party's headquarters at the Rienzi complex.
She reminded her audience that all through her political campaign last year she focused on keeping God in the lead. She reflected on the messages of the various religious leaders who all spoke of the need for people to live together in harmony.
The political leader of the UNC noted some of her government's major achievements in the first year in office as well as some setbacks. "We acknowledge that we may have made mistakes in our first year in office, but those who fail to make mistakes fail to make or learn anything," she said.
"We have learnt and continue to learn from positive and negative, and even as we strive with you to find the find the most effective path to good governance, we continue to put God in front and to walk behind," she added
Persad-Bissessar called the event wonderful and very inspirational, adding that it gave her "the courage to really continue to serve to do better than we've done in the last year. I give praise and thanks to God. I really feel inspired."

She urged people to look beyond differences and live together in harmony. "When you look into someone’s face, do not see their race," she said, adding: "You must see the face of God...Because we all belong to one race—the human race.
At the end of the service she joined with her ministers, religious leaders and those who performed during the two and a half hour ceremony to sing "We are the World". She ended the evening by giving gifts to everyone who was present.
About 1,500 guests attended.

Before she left reporters asked her about the findings of a public opinion poll which suggests that she still has 54 per cent support and that the People's Partnership could win a majority again if an election were held today.
"I thank the people of Trinidad and Tobago for the confidence they placed in my Government as I commit and recommit to better serve. Better days are coming. More improvement in the next year," Persad-Bissessar said.
