Jack appeals to CFU to attend FIFA congress, vote for Blatter

Jack Warner wrote members of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Tuesday asking them to desist from any protest action at Wednesday's FIFA Congress and urging them to vote for FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

"At our last meeting we agreed as a Union to support the incumbent Joseph Sepp Blatter in his quest to regain the Presidency. I wish to assure you nothing has changed – our mandate was set then and despite it all we must fulfill it."

The FIFA Vice President said, "My family, our foundation has been rocked and our strength is being tested but I urge you for the good of the game to attend tomorrow’s Congress and fulfill your duties in representing the Caribbean."

He acknowledged that many of them are hurting over developments that saw Warner's provisional suspension over allegations of corruption. He said, "it is only human nature that you would want to demonstrate your anger but despite all we must not fuel a fire set by others to incinerate all that we strive for."

He added, "Daily we are subjected to attacks of division. Do not lose faith, for in life good will always prevail; there is no better education than adversity and when this is over we will rise from the ashes and like the phoenix of legend, we will soar once more.

"We are being chastised for our belief in fair play and freedom of speech but let not your heart be daunted. We are Caribbean people, our history is tattooed with stories of struggle, but we have always risen."

Warner said football is more important than personal battles.

"The battles I have fought over the last week are my burdens to bear; my shoulders are broad and skin is insulated to the verbal attacks I am subjected to daily. This is now my battle. I am humbled by all the support I continue to receive. Let us not be detracted for your duty is to football.

"My Brothers and sisters together we stood and together we will continue to stand," Warner said.

Blatter is the only candidate standing for the FIFA election on Wednesday. His opponent, Mohammed bin Hammam of Qatar dropped out the race on Sunday.

Warner returns home on Thursday.
