Jack Warner is the acting Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago from Saturday until next Thursday during a visit to Washington DC by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
The four-day visit is to attend the Hemispheric Summit of the Organisation of American States (OAS) during which Persad-Bissessar will deliver several keynote addresses and meet influenctial world leaders.
One of her first engagements is Gala Dinner at the Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts, which is under the patronage of President Barack Obama and Mrs. Obama.
On Monday she will deliver an address at the summit on Women’s Leadership and Rights. Her address will focus on the challenges of the democratic system to women’s equality in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Several high level female politicians and leaders from the hemisphere will be attending this three-day event along with women who are leaders of global organisations such as UN Women and the OAS.
Also on Monday she is listed to deliver an address at the Brookings Institute, a non-profit public policy organisation that works to strengthen democracy in the United States.
The institute is ranked as the world’s top think tank, and is recognised as a trusted source of independent research, with a profound influence on important policy debates and decisions in the U.S.
Persad-Bissessar will speak about Trinidad and Tobago’s economy and means of strengthening and diversifying not only specific sectors, such as the energy industry, but also the Government’s goals and projects for diversifying and expanding the economy as a whole.
The address will also focus on social and developmental issues pertaining to Trinidad and Tobago and share the initiatives and aims of Government for continuing to improve the quality of life in Trinidad and Tobago.
She will also hold talks with OAS Secretary-General, Jose Miguel Insulza and Assistant Secretary-General, Albert Ramdin.
The official delegation includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism Winston Peters and Minister of Gender Affairs, Senator Mary King.
The prime minister is scheduled to return home on Thursday.
