Karene Asche, 27, was crowned early Monday morning as the 2011 Calypso Monarch for her renditions of Be Careful What You Wish For and "Uncle Jack"; defending monarch Kurt Allen won sixth place.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was present to hand over the $2 million prize money. Sugar Aloes - Michael Osuna - placed second with a former monarch, Chalkdust - Hollis Liverpool - in third place.
The title of 2011 King of Carnival went to Wade Madray for his portrayal of "Pacific Tsunami". Owen Hinds jr. captured the second spot with his "Battle of the Marabunta" and Curtis Eustace's "Bozo D Legend Lives on" won third prize.
Peola Marchan won the top prize in the Queen of Carnival compeition portraying "D Jewelled Chandelier". Gloria Dallsingh's "Splendor Of Lights" was second with "Island Queen", portrayed by Kay Mason taking third place.
