$48M in Ganja seized at Point Lisas port in one week; more containers "contaminated"

Authorities in Trinidad and Tobago have made a second multi-million dollar drug bust at the Point Lisas port on the country's West coast. And they believe more containers at the port could be "contaminated".

Early last week officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force found more than $18 million worth of compressed Arizona high grade marijuana in a container at the port. They were called in after officials suspected that someone had tampered with the seal on the container.

On Friday officers of the Customs and Excise Division found another marijuana shipment. They say the estimated value of the shipment was more than $30 million.

In a media release the Customs and Excise Division stated the bust was made following ongoing intelligence operations at the port conducted in conjunction with its Marine Interdiction Unit.

It noted that in both instances the containers had been intransit from Jamaica. "The marijuana was enclosed in several containers. Investigations are continuing at the Port as it is believed that more contaminated containers exist," the release added.
