Tragic end to search for missing Gasparillo schoolboy

The search for eight-year-old Daniel Guerra ended Sunday when police found his body in a river near the Tarouba overpass in San Fernando. He was wearing the clothes he wore when he was last seen going to the neighbourhood parlour on Friday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (South) Fitzroy Frederick told reporters it is too too early to say how the boy died.

Guerra's family reported him missing Friday. He had gone to the parlour at around eleven in the morning and never returned.

Police mounted an extensive search shortly after the missing person report was made and the family put up posters hoping someone would have information that would help find then child.

Earlier in the day before then body was discovered the MP for the area, Dr Surujrattan Rambachan, visited the family and appealed for anyone with information to call him.

"So many crimes are solved because somebody in the community has a piece of information, and that is the appeal that I am making," Rambachan told the media.

After learning of the discovery of the child's body, Rambachan returned to console the family and friends.

The family never received any phone calls and the child's mother had hoped that her son would return home safely.

She had appealed for his return. "Whoever have him I hope that you have it in your mind that he is just a little child, he is an innocent child, he did no wrong. I just want my son."
