The office of the Prime Minister issued a media release Friday stating that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar held "an unprecedented meeting" with all Permanent Secretaries at her office on February, 9, 2011 to discuss the reassignment of Permanent Secretaries.
The release stated that Persad-Bissessar noted that while it is her prerogative to request shifts in Permanent Secretaries "to areas in which their experience and resources are deemed to be best suited" this strategy is still under consideration.
It said Persad-Bissessar assured the Permanent Secretaries that she will make reassignments only after "consultation and sound assessment based on the vital need to achieve the best fit of skills, training, competencies and personalities."
Persad-Bissessar thanked the senior officials for their service to successive Governments and to the people of Trinidad and Tobago and assured them that she will continue to "foster and develop good working relationships among her Ministers and Permanent Secretaries" in order to implement and manage government policies.
The Permanent Secretaries pledged their whole-hearted commitment to continue to give their support and guidance to the ministers in the achievement of the Government’s national development programs.
