H.E. Harry Partap presents credentials in Pretoria to President Jacob Zuma |
The former apartheid fighter thanked Trinidad and Tobago for its help during the struggles against apartheid. Zuma told Partap that African National Congress (ANC) freedom fighters travelled on T&T passports in order to expose the apartheid system.
“We will never forget this act of solidarity,” Zuma said. He also said friendship between both countries could only deepen with the presence of the T&T high commissioner in South Africa.
Partap told the president Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has appointed a multi-stakeholder team in T&T to formulate a national plan to mark the United Nations International Year for People of African Descent.
Partap said one of the projects is the production of a mural for public display comprising work of young artists from T&T, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda.
