Customers who have invested thousands of dollars in two cancelled cruise are helping police to build a case against Vicky Boodram-Arjoonsingh, president of Boodram's Travel & Tours and Ship Ahoy Cruises.
Police questioned Boodram-Arjoonsingh over the weekend in connection with allegations that she fraudulently accepted money from customers for two failed cruises and has so far failed to refund any money.
Arlene Massiah of Mt Grace, Tobago is among people who claim that they were fleeced. She told the Express newspaper she paid $8,000 for the cruise for herself and her husband. She added that said she was part of a group of over 100 people who spent a total of $120,000 and are yet to be refunded.
Boodram-Arjoonsingh had promised to return the money to everyone by the end of January but only a few people have received refunds. And her office at Dumfries Road, La Romaine is closed and no one seems to know Boodram-Arjoonsingh's whereabouts.
So far local investigators have not laid any charges against Boodram-Arjoonsingh but they say they have not closed the case.
Boodram -Arjoonsingh is also facing a lawsuit in Florida filed by the Miami-based Carnival Corporation. The company alleges that Boodram-Arjoonsingh and her companies agreed to pay about $40 million in two payments for use of the Carnival vessels for two Caribbean cruises.
Carnival Corporation has reported the matter to the US Federal Bureau of Investigations.
