PNM says it will pay outstanding $84,000 to PTSC

The People's National Movement (PNM) has promised to pay its outstanding debt to the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC).

The opposition party made the pledge to reporters Saturday following a meeting of its general council. MP Donna Cox said the party is making some checks with constituencies to clarify certain matter concerning the bill and suggested that part of the outstanding bill was from 2000.

Former party leader Patrick Manning has acknowledged that the PNM owes the transit corporation a large sum of money. Minister of Works and Transport Jack Warner said last week the PNM owes the PTSC $84,000 for the use of buses during the general election last year.

On another issue, Cox also confirmed that the PNM 's Convention be held on March 20. She said the deadline for submitting resolutions and reports is February. The deadline for consent letters and nominations will be February 18.

Cox said the PNM leadership will hold two meetings in preparation for the convention - one in Port of Spain and the other in San Fernando - and continue walk-abouts in different communities.
