Manning says he left a grand piano at Diplomatic Centre

Patrick Manning is not taking responsibility for a missing grand piano from the official residence which he occupied during his tenure as Prime Minister.

The San Fernando East MP made the comment to the media in reaction to allegations by the Attorney General that a piano delivered to the official residenc is missing. Anand Ramlogan asked Manning to provide infomation on what happend to the piano.

The instrument is one of ten that the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) bought for more than US$1 million.

Manning told reporters the piano was at the Diplomatic Centre when he left the compound following the defeat of the PNM in the general election last year.

“When I left the Prime Minister's residence in May, a grand piano was stored on the eastern side of the stage at the Diplomatic Centre. I checked this morning and I am able to say that the piano was there for sometime after I left office,” he said.

He suggested that the piano was only one of the many things that were removed. “When the new Prime Minister came in and when her team came in, a lot of equipment was moved out of the residence and I have no idea where that furniture was sent," he said.

Manning said an agency called Executive Security Services was in charge up to time he left office. He insisted that the agency would have known if anyone moved the piano.

He said the new administration made many changes when it took over the resdience and diplomatic centre.

“They also interfered with the security system because there were cameras at that residence where you can monitor the entire facility from one central location.

“They felt they had no need for those cameras and much of that has been moved out. So the system as we left it no longer exists,” Manning said.

Manning suggested that there is a conspiracy to suspend him from Parliament and said that it would come as no surprise if a warrant is issued to search his home, hoping to find the grand piano.
