The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT) shut down all operations at Piarco International Airport Sunday morning and evacuated all buildings in response to an emergency.
Authorities moves everyone of out the buildings around 10 a.m., leaving only security personnel on duty. The airport's fire service conducted a search and concluded that was it was safe for everyone to return.
It was business as usual after about an hour.
Ramesh Lutchmedial, director general of the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority, confirmed that an emergency alarms went off accidentally and the evacuation that followed was in keeping with standard procedure.
