Jack Warner is still committed to his plan to give legal status to PH drivers.
The Works and transport Minister met Sunday with a delegation headed by the president of the Route 5 Maxi-Taxi Association, Ainsley Caesar. The PH is one issue that came up during the discussions.
"We from the maxi-taxi fraternity, and I am sure I can speak on behalf of the taxi-driver fraternity, we are totally opposed to the recommendations of the Minister to legalise something which we believe to be illegal," Caesar told reporters. He added, "We are making a firm stand against and will continue to stand against that decision."
The group is recommending that Government lower the cost of a legal taxi badge and fast track the process to allow the PH drivers to operate licenced taxis.
Warner told the group he is not backing down on the PH issue. The minister insists that the PH drivers offer a vital service especially to rural areas that are not served by regular taxis and public transit.
