Attorney General Anand Ramlogan told reporters Thursday the Trinidad and Tobago government has advised all state enterprises that they should not incur "significant expenditure".
Speaking after the weekly cabinet meeting Ramlogan said Minister of Finance Winston Dookeran has sent a letter to all the corporations in his capacity as Corporation Sole. He added that where there is an emergency the authorities could seek guidance from the relevant line minister.
"So that is the general framework in which State enterprises have been asked to operate...when no board is in place," he stated.
A controversy has erupted over the award of three contracts by the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT). Two involved an emergency situation for the rehabilitation of the lighting system that guides aircraft during landing at the country's two international airports and a third for development works at Crown Point Airport.
All three have been put on hold. The lighting contracts will have to go back to tender and the other would have to wait until the new AATT board is appointed.
The AG reiterated the government's position on board appointments. He said the People's Partnership has to take its time to ensure it gets the right mix so that the country is best served by those appointed.
He said the process will continue when Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar returns home from London.
