PP gov't, Clico hoping for "win-win" solution

Agriculture Minister Vasant Bharath believes discussions between the government of Trinidad and Tobago Clico policy holders with produce a "win-win" for all.

Bharath is leading a cabinet-appointed inter-ministerial committee to hold talks with Clico policy holders. His team met Thursday with stakeholders.

At the start of the talks the minister stated that his team is approaching the assignment "with a very open mind.

"Our intention is to sit, to listen, to hear any proposals that you may have with the intention that we can arrive, whatever solution we arrive at will be a win-win situation."

However he pointed out that Trinidad and Tobago "currently faces a very perilous situation with regard to the Clico affair. There is not a day that we do not discover more and more issues that potentially could have serious and deleterious effects on the financial situation in Trinidad and Tobago,"

Peter Permell, deputy chairman of the Clico Policyholders Group, has welcomed the dialogue with the government.

"We hope that at the end of the day we will have a meeting of the minds and in fact come up with as the Minister said a win-win situation to ease the anxiety and tension out there in the national community," Permell said.
