Tassa welcome for PM Kamla on her return from London |
She said the decisions on the appointments were made in consultation with the cabinet at two recent meetings.
“I understand that there have been others that have not been happy with the appointments and I say that all the partners were present at the Cabinet meeting,” she said.
“Appointments have been made with respect to the Partnership. So, contrary to the views of some that one partner has been left out, that is not true. The members of the Partnership, the members of the Parliament, they brought their recommendations forward. They were duly considered and agreed upon by the entire Cabinet," she told reporters on her return from London Saturday afternoon.
Persad-Bissessar promised to make other state board appointments "within the next few weeks", noting that it is necessary to get consensus.
She was emphatic that the cabinet was in agreement with appointments made so far.
“Those appointments, in my respectful view, represent the Partnership and contain recommendations coming from the various members of the Partnership.
"Therefore, the rumblings I see that might be going on by others may well be that they have internal campaign elections running and does not have anything to do with the Partnership itself.”
Persad-Bissessar also addressed concerns about the new Petrotrin chairman, businessman and former cabinet minister, Lindsay Gillette. There are allegations that Gillette acted inappropriately when he was Energy Minister in 2001.
Noting that allegations against Gilette are more than 10 years old, she said "for the time being, they remain as they are, allegations." She added, "At the moment, I have seen nothing as to provide a reason for the withdrawal of Mr Gillette as the Chairman of Petrotrin."
She said if anyone has evidence against Gillette, she would review it.
