PM Kamla meets with CPA, praises work of association

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Wednesday praised the work of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) during a meeting in London with CPA’s Secretary General William Shija.

The Prime Minister and members of her delegation discussed a range of matters during the meeting, in which Shija also complimented Persad-Bissessar’s stewardship of the Commonwealth.

The meeting took note of the CPA’s work in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean and this country’s involvement in the organisation.

Persad-Bissessar visited Shija in her capacity as chair-in-office of the 54-member Commonwealth.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago is prominently featured in the bimonthly magazine produced by the secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States.

The cover picture of a Peter Minshall mas costume sets the stage for extensive coverage on Trinidad and Tobago, including a feature on Ms. Persad-Bissessar.

The magazine noted: “An accusation of ‘buildingitis’ was levelled at the previous PNM Government for investing in under-utilised expensive new structures, such as the Waterfront Development built to house a services-based economy.”

The magazine reported on matters of alleged lack of financial transparency of the previous administration.
