Lots of speculation but gov't not giving hints about state board appointments

The government of Trinidad and Tobago is not releasing any advance information about appointments to state boards. However media reports are naming names to key boards.

The Trinidad Express is speculating that former San Fernando Mayor Ian Atherly is likely to be the new CEPEP chairman, citing unnamed sources. Atherly is a former PNM member who supported the People's Partnership during the July Local Government elections.

The paper is also reporting that former TV6 reporter Nirad Tewarie will be chairman of Government Information Services Ltd (GISL). Tewari was a candidate for the Congress of the People (COP) in Chaguanas East in the 2007 General Election and spoke on the PP's partnership platforms in the May General Election.

The Express is also reporting that Nirad's father, former UWI Principal Bhoe Tewari, will be head of UTT.

Other media reports say former Panday cabinet minister Linday Gillette will be named Petrotrin chairman and former NAR minister Prof. Brinsley Samaroo will head the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA).

The reports also name Panday loyalist and cabinet minister Kelvin Ramnath as the new PTSC Chairman and another former Panday cabinet minister and COP member Manohar Ramsaran as the chairman of Caribbean Airlines.
