Letter: what's the fuss about the aiport lights and trouble in the PP?

We are witnessing a truly misguided onslaught on the PP Government by individuals who are seeking to divide the very people who voted in this Government only a few months ago.

Let us be very clear – the issue of the Lighting contracts at the Airport(s) was not about Jack Warner; anyone reading the issues will see that the Minister acted within his constitutional responsibility (in the absence of a Board at the AATT) when he was advised of the serious consequences of our airports lighting systems suddenly failing.

Director of Civil Aviation is on record that there is “a clear and present danger of an accident”

If these lights fail during a landing, the consequences would be disastrous. Trinidad and Tobago has an obligation to ensure that all its systems at both airports are up to standards established by the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO), he said.

But lo and behold, we now have critics seeking to discredit the PP Government by a deliberate attempt to smear a very senior cabinet Minister with all sorts of innuendos, half truths and deliberate (?) misinterpretation of straightforward facts.

What is the reason for this? Is it that personal agendas are (once again) being placed ahead of the National Agenda?

Let us remain more vigilant than before and expose those from within our “own ranks” who believe that it is either “their way or the highway”.

Let us be vigilant and keep the PNM where they are right now - in the political cemetery.

The comical side of all this is the sudden willingness of some PP “supporters” to embrace none other that Colm Imbert, Manning’s “hatchet man” and an excuse for a politician. How quickly we forget!
