Housing and Environment Minister Roodal Moonilal told reporters Monday a land distribution program should begin by the end of the year.
Moonilal said the chairman of the Land Settlement Agency (LSA), Dr Alan Sammy, is working on the project to distribute land and provide certificates of comfort to landowners.
He added that Dr Sammy is working on proposals "for the regularisation of certain squatting communities and the distribution of certificates of comfort to residents.”
Moonilal also said the full board of the LSA will be in place next month. Once that is done, he said, the ministry would begin to distribute certificates and provide lots of land to persons who, in some cases, have already paid for them.
