High drama as police officer kills two fleeing bandits in Tunapuna

A police officer killed two bandits Friday who had just staged a robbery at the Tunapuna market and were trying to escape. The events could well have been a scene from a police movie drama.

Accoding to eye-witness and police reports in the local media, policewoman Patrice St Louis, who is assigned to the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation Municipal Police force, was on duty at the market when she learned about the robbery.

The 25-year-old officer saw the two female bandits trying to escape in a car and chased after them. The reports say the thieves tried to run over the police officers who responded by firing two deadly shots.

The driver of the escape vehicle died at steering wheel; the second bandit fled the car, then collapsed and died. Both of them were later pronounced dead by medical authorities at the Mount Hope hospital.

Officer St. Louis was treated at for injuiries and trauma from the encounter with the bandits, who have been identified as Latoya Mars and Susan Frederick.

Police say both of them were from Diego Martin and may have been connected a series of other robberies.
