Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has discussed poverty reduction, educational opportunities and health care with former United States President Bill Clinton.
Persad-Bissessar attended a function hosted by Clinton and attended by world leaders, business bosses and celebrities in New York Wednesday night.
Persad-Bissessar, who is in New York for the United National General Assembly, spoke with the former American leader in his capacity as head of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI).
The CGI, which encompasses 90 countries, is committed to improving the quality of life of vulnerable people, especially in developing countries. The group's priorities include assisting disaster-struck Haiti.
The 2010 CGI conference in being held in New York, with participants being heads of governments and former leaders, business executives and NGO heads.
The CGI has announced that close to 300 commitments are expected to be made at this year's conference. Altogether, the organisation has assisted in improving the lives of about 300 million people around the world.
The Persad-Bissessar administration is committed to the ideals espoused by the CGI.
The Prime Minister has been telling various conferences in New York of her government's effort to reduce poverty, create more opportunities for students, boost health care and diversify the economy.
