Jack Warner launched a new rural bus service Tuesday from Chaguanas to Felicity. It's part of a new push by the works minister to expand the network of rural bus routes offered by the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC).
Warner has promised to introduce 38 new routes by the end of then month. on Monday the PTSC started a service from San Fernando to the St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and he plans a similar one to UWI, originating in Sangre Grande.
The minister has said he has no apologies for his focus on rural development because communities in rural Trinidad and Tobago have suffered neglect by the previous administration.
The new Chaguanas to Felicity service will operate with a 50-seater bus and commuters will have to pay three dollars for the ride, which is two dollars less than the normal taxi fare. The Chaguanas West MP plans similar rural services for other parts of the country.
Warner and officials from his ministry also visited the site of the planned water taxi terminal at Cacandee Road, Felicity.
The works ministry plans to build the terminal near the Lahkan Karriah Cremation Site. The Cunupia River will be dredged to allow the water taxis access to the terminal from the Gulf of Paria.
The felicity stop is part of the overall expansion of the Water Taxi service, which Warner is planning to extend to Point Fortin. The state recently took ownership of four new ferries for the service.
