Police rescue wife, child of murdered man; Warner pledges to fight to hang murderers

Quick action by police and the coast guard over the weekend led to the arrest of four persons for questioning about the murder of a young man from Carapichaima in Central Trinidad and the kidnap of his wife and one-year old daughter.

Police rescued the wife and child.

Media reports said Neeshad Ali, 37, had hired two men to do some painting at his home.

Some time later relatives spotted the men leaving with Ali's wife, Laila, and their child. They later discovered Ali's body. He had been hacked to death.

Shortly after relatives received a call for a ransom of $100,000; police advised the family not to pay the money and promised to solve the crime.

They got to work immediately, rescued the woman and her child and detained the suspects.

Commenting on the brutality of the crime, Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner said he is convinced more than ever that Trinidad and Tobago should hang convicted killers.

Warner visited the crime scene and spoke with reporters. “I am so upset about this situation right now. This is the most horrific murder scene I have ever seen and if you see blood inside there.

"I will dedicate the rest of my political life to fight for implementation the death penalty...I am now convinced more than ever that the murders that are taking place these days are too heinous and too horrendous and evil, and therefore you have to fight evil with evil,” he said.

He added, “I am not prepared to walk and go anywhere. I will use my political clout to fight and implement the death penalty and I will begin by writing the AG tomorrow (Monday).”
