Moonilal to meet NY Housing Authority Monday

Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal will meet on Monday with representatives of the New York City Housing Authority.

Moonilal is a member of the Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's delegtation that is on a 10-day visit to New York.

The minister's meeting is aimed at crafting "the new direction for the Housing Development Corporation (HDC)".

Jearlean John, Managing Director of the HDC told local media Moonilal is seeking the best practices to assist him in that regard.

She added that the minister will get a sense of the city's Housing Management Programme and its housing policy.

A report in the Newsday newspaper said Moonilal will go to Singapore "in the near future" to look at low cost housing there with a view to introducing some of those ideas in Trinidad and Tobago.

The paper said the minister's aim is to make it affordable for everyone to own a home.
