Bandits shot and killed a police officer Monday night near the Grand Bazaar traffic lights on the Uriah Butler Highway.
The murder brought the murder toll for 2010 to 335.
Reports say three men tried to steal a taxi owned by PC Jason Thomas, 37. They boarded the taxi, pretending to be passengers, then pulled a gun.
Investigators say Thomas stopped the vehicle, took the keys and ran. That's when he was shot. The body bore several bullet wounds.
The perpetrators tried to escape on foot. However they were caught by a group of soldiers who were travelling in a vehicle that was behind the one Thomas was driving.
There were two other murders Monday. Two teens - one 14-year-old and the other aged 18 - were shot and killed in St. Joseph. Relatives told the media both men believe the victims were "in the wrong place and the wrong time".
