Trinidad and Tobago kicks off its 48th anniversary independence celebrations Saturday with fireworks in Couva, Penal and San Juan.
This year the ministries of local government and arts and multicultural will provide $100,000 to the 14 regional corporations for Independence concerts and fireworks.
The celebrations will end on August 31 with a grand celebration at the Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain.
The government has invited citizens to attend the celebrations with family members "to make it a joyous family outing as we celebrate the Nation’s Birthday".
Details of the programmes for each region will be advertised in the local media.
