The United National Congress (UNC) and its largest coalition partner, the Congress of the People (COP), will share the 134 seats in the July 26 Local Government Election (LGE) in Trinidad. The vote doesn't affect Tobago, which is governed locally by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).
The UNC will contest 79 seats and the COP will run candidates in the other 42. COP will have a presence in only 10 of 14 regional corporations. However, the UNC will have candidates in all of them.
The UNC's seats will include seven for the National Joint Action Committee (NJAC) and six from the Movement for Social Justice (MSJ), the other coalition partners. The ballots for the vote will carry only UNC and COP symbols.
Nomination day in Monday.
