Rowley has no compassion, wants to destabilise police: Warner

Jack Warner told a huge crowd of supporters Saturday he is convinced that People Power will work to give the People's Partnership (PP) a resounding victory in Monday's Local Government Election (LGE).

Speaking at the closing rally of the PP at Skinner Park in San Fernando he said Monday's vote offers a clear choice between the leadership of Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and that of Keith Rowley.

"Your choice is obvious...there is considerably less to Keith Rowley than meets the eye," he said and asked: "Can you recall anything Rowley has said during this campaign other than some inane reference to “Dancing Shoes”?

Warner said Rowley has shown no compassion to local government issues and pointed out that the PNM leader blamed the people of the Old Train Line for the squalid conditions in which they have been forced to live over the years.

"He went there and told them that they made the Old Train Line a La Basse, and that they had to fix it. And, yes, he boasted that he does not approve of the URP. Every speech Dr. Rowley has made during this campaign has been dominated by his use of the word “Power”. Rowley is fixated on power; he is obsessed with power," the UNC chairman said.

"We have not heard the PNM leader talking about poverty, about jobs in your communities; or about the heartless, mindless criminals who had free reign to terrorise law-abiding citizens under the Manning/Martin Joseph watch. What we have heard from Rowley has been vintage PNM fear mongering," Warner declared.

He condemned Rowley's attack on Makandal Daaga saying Rowley will never have the stature to stand in Makandal Daaga’s sandals. He also slammed Rowley for criticising the acting president for appointing Nizam Mohammed as chairman of the Police Services Commission (PSC).

"I detect a diabolical intent in Rowley’s focus on Nizam Mohammed. His intent is to spread fear, suspicion, disaffection and discontent among the Police ranks. Rowley is on a diabolical design to destabilize the police service," Warner charged.

He called on the nation to stop Rowley on Monday by making him the PNM leader to lose the greatest number of seats in elections in this country. "It will be up to the PNM to deal with him after that," he said.

Warner said too many people have been conditioned to think that they are nobody; and that they cannot survive without favours from PNM 'Jefes' who have so callously neglected them for so many years.

He said that has changed with the People’s Partnership government, which "has brought new hope, new horizons, and new opportunities to the people of Trinidad and Tobago."

He noted that after two months in office, the Kamla government has already begun to shape and implement meaningful measures to deal with the PNM’s "heartless neglect of the people and their communities over the years".

He said there are visible in education, health, transport, road development, housing, drainage, food production, safety and security, fiscal reform, poverty alleviation, social transformation and integrity in public life.

He called on people to continue the change revolution that is taking place under the leadership of Persad-Bissessar by "voting them out" on Monday.
