Rowley blames people for making a "labasse" of their living area

When Jack Warner visited "The Trainline" during the campaign for the May 24 general election he was appalled at the living conditions of people there.

"Nobody should have to live that" he said. He immediately used his personal resources to provide some basic sanitary facilities for people, saying it didn't matter whether they voted for the People's Partnership.

On Saturday People's National Movement (PNM) leader Leader Dr Keith Rowley visited the area and had another opinion.

He blamed residents of the Old Train Line community in Marabella for contributing to the horrifying conditions in which they live.

Rowley was touring the area seeking votes for the local candidate the July 26 Local Government Election (LGE). He said people prefer to throw garbage into the river and the road rather than put it in garbage bins.

"There are some things that people have to do for themselves and learn to improve their environment. And the San Fernando City Corporation provides bins in the area for the disposal of garbage,” Rowley said.

He described the area as a labasse and urged.
the people to deal with the issue themselves.

Media reports on the visit said some people expressed support for the PNM but others complained to Rowley about the conditions under which they live.

One resident was quoted in the Newsday newspaper as telling Rowley there is a price he must pay if he wants the votes of the people in the trainline - get rid of the garbage in the area.

The paper said the local representative who is seeking election for the San Fernando City Corporation responded by saying, "Yes but when we move it we hope you all don’t put it back."
