The People's Partnership in Trinidad has won a landslide in Monday's Local Government Election (LGE), winning 11 of the 14 municipal districts.
The governing coalition made a major breakthrough by winning the Arima Borough Corporation, which has always been a stronghold of the People's National Movement (PNM).
In the May 24 general election the PNM lost the constituency to the People's Partnership candidate, Rodger Samuel.
On Monday the Partnership consolidated its victory by winning all but one of the seats in Arima.
The Partnership also won a majority of seats in Diego Martin and the City of San Fernando, two other PNM strongholds.
It addition it won the Borough of Chaguanas, winning in the traditional PNM district of Enterprise North. However it was unable to make a clean sweep, losing one seat - Enterprise South - to the PNM.
The Partnership also took Princes Town, Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo, Tunapuna/Piarco, Penal/Debe, Siparia, Mayaro/Rio Claro and Sangre Grande.
The opposition PNM has won only three regions - Point Fortin, San Juan/Laventille and the city of Port of Spain. However in Port of Spain, where the Partnership won four of the 12 seats, the coalition has asked for a recount in two others.
