Jack Warner wrote to the President of FIFA recently to advise Joseph Blatter that he would be unable to attend the semi-final and final games in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa because he has been entrusted with the position of acting Prime Minister.
On Wednesday he noted that as acting Prime Minister his request for leave to attend the games had come before him for approval "so I would have to approve my own request for leave". he said he left the matter unattended.
In Jamaica, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar told reporters she would have denied the leave request but the issue is irrelevant since the world cup ends on July 11 and she won't be back home until July 12.
Warner had written to the PM seeking leave to attend the closing of the world cup but that letter did not reach her before she left for the CARICOM summit.
However, when she appointed Warner to act as PM, he made the decision himself to advise the FIFA chief that his responsibilities at home take precedence.
