Letter: PP's perceived weakness is its strength

The plethora of advice and recommendations being proffered the people's partnership (PP) is dizzying and everyone appears confident in role of adviser.

That the PP was a miracle baby force delivered by an incompetent government and thriving extremely well is disregarded.

For Senator Drayton down, everyone seems to believe that the UNC led PP is headed for implosion because of the diversity of personalities assiduously attending to the nation’s business in vocal strain.

The reality is that the PP is a rare specimen in the political menagerie.

It remains a Party of Parties bringing together diverse people and styles and philosophies and personalities who while holding strong views, yet conform to Cabinet diktat without protest.

What seems desirable to many is a homogenized party kowtowing to a single maximum leader who lays down the rules of engagement.

That was the Manning style of failed governance.

The present farm members are subject to public approval or opprobrium by virtue of their individual performance, and praise or censure will follow performance as deserved.

In the present scenario, a Minister who commits serious faux pas will be forced to offer his resignation as the cabinet cannot tolerate such in the teeth of Public vigilance.

This insures the PM and Cabinet against collective responsibility for gaffes.

IMHO, it is crucial to the survival and proper performance of the PP to maintain the individual persona without retreating to homogenized ground.

Indeed, the very constitution of the multi party is physically varied. Widely differing philosophies define the mosaic.

It is only when thesis meets anti-thesis that synthesis can evolve. The differences in parties and personalities must be maintained.

It is ironic that the strength of the PP is being viewed as its weakness.
