Readers to the Sunday Guardian have expressed strong support for Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's stand on corruption in relation to the award of UDCOTT contracts for building six police stations.
The contracts were awarded a few days before the general election and the government is now facing a daily penalty of $144,000 because of the delay in starting the construction of the six police stations.
Here's a sampling on the public support, taken from the Sunday Guardian:
"Have we forgotten that the 'sweet-heart' deal with Severn-Trent & WASA was signed a few days before the prematurely called 1995 general elections? The PNM obviously had a practice run then & got away with it. So why not do it with bigger bucks now?"
"...was this contract signed in such a hurry without any forethought, simply to bind the government and the taxpayers with another heavy debt load...due to obscene fiscal mismanagement and ignorance.? This is really stupidity in the extreme, and totally unacceptable...you are being ever so kind, jail is not good enough..."
"Kamla and her PP are doing exactly what should be done...Everyone knows about the Manning and PNM corrupt practices, so why are you people afraid of hearing about all the findings...Mr. Rowley, what is your take on this latest controversy?"
"If there were no sitting Board of Directors at UDeCOTT, how could there be business decisions being made and who would be the person in authority to sign these contracts, Jearlean John?""Build more jails please as this stuff isn't ending soon, Jail the whole: toute monde you catch within the money trail. See why they probably shredded all documents..."
