Jack slams Rowley, promises big things for local communities

Jack Warner took the People's Partnership election campaign to Princes Town Monday night and asked supporters for a repeat of the landslide they gave the party on May 24 in both Princes Town and Moruga.

He began by extending greetings to everyone from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who is in Monetgo Bay, Jamaica, attending the CARICOM summit.

"Our Leader wants you to know that she is with us in spirit tonight...she expects no less from Princes Town in the Local Government Elections than you delivered in the General Election on My 24. And the Leader wants you to know that she will be coming to Princes Town sooner than you think," he declared.

He said he wants supporters to elect all the People's Partnership candidates in those areas and make sure the PNM doesn't win any.

"It’s All for the People’s Partnership in Princes Town and Mayaro - None for the PNM!" he said.

Warner also launched a direct attack on the new PNM leader reminding his audience that on Friday he warned that Keith Rowley would not bring anything new to the political scene and that "the PNM are as bold-faced, as they are hypocritical".

He said Rowley worked so hard to help bring down the PNM government on the question of corruption yet today he says there is nothing that the PNM ought to be ashamed of.

"Does Keith Rowley really believe that there is nothing that the PNM ought to be ashamed of? Is Keith Rowley a man of such vanity and such arrogance that he believes that even the most die-hard PNM supporter agrees with his extraordinary assertion that the PNM has nothing to be ashamed of?" Warner asked.

He spoke of media reports of a $55 Million package of property deals.

"The PNM government entered leases on four high priced properties from private interests within the three days immediately before and three days after the General Election on May 24...And Keith Rowley says that the PNM has nothing to be ashamed of. What manner of man is Rowley to say that the PNM has nothing to be ashamed of?"

Warner also spoke of alleged corruption involving $2 billion in UDeCOTT contracts and the abuse of $84 million in state funds in the purchase and repair of a ferry that has never been put into service.

He said Rowley cannot hide behind the fact that he was not in charge when all these and other irregularities took place. "I feel ashamed for Keith Rowley," he said.

Warner accused the Manning government of a sinister plan to replace the institutions of local government with special purposes state companies, on the UDECOTT model.

He said that is why they kept postponing the election year after year. "That was the PNM vision for the future of Local Government. Keith Rowley was one of the planners," he charged.

He promised big things for local government from the People's partnership coalition.
