Jack commends South Africa for hosting successful FIFA World Cup

Jack Warner told supporters at a political meeting in Couva Saturday night he has his priorities right although he remains Vice President of FIFA.

"Look where the world cup is and look where I am," he said.

He was making the point to assure citizens that contrary to concerns raised by opposition leader Keith Rowley, there is no conflict in his two roles and that he knows very well what takes priority.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup ends Sunday with Spain and The Netherlands fighting the final battle. Warner is predicting that Spain will be number one when the game is over. On Saturday Germany secured third place.

Warner was instrumental in getting South Africa to host the World Cup, defying the critics who said the country was not capable of hosting such an event.

In a letter to South African President Jacob Zuma, Warner said, "It gives me the greatest pleasure to commend you, your government and the people of South Africa for having staged a very successful FIFA World Cup."

He added, "On behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago, I would like to thank you for staging a world event, compared to no other in the history of the sport. The people of South Africa have demonstrated to the world their ability to host an event of such magnitude."

The letter, signed as Acting Prime Minister and Vice President of FIFA said, "People from all around the world have nothing but high praise for South Africa, and I wish you a very successful staging of the final today (Sunday) between Spain and the Netherlands."
