Canadian Dwayne Gibbs is still waiting for his formal appointment as Commissioner of Police (CoP) in Trinidad and Tobago.
The country's Parliament approved his appointment last week but the formal offer must be made by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
However the term of the PSC that recommended Gibbs' appointment has expired and there is no new commission yet.
Gibbs told local media he is eager to get to Trinidad to begin his new job. Press Secretary Gavin Nicholas told the Newsday newspaper the matter of the PSC will be the first item on the agenda of the Prime Minister when she returns to Trinidad.
President George Maxwell Richards has sent Parliament his recommendations for members of the new commission.
Government Chief Whip Dr Roodal Moonilal told the paper, “The Opposition Leader has already been consulted, and would have made his recommendations. We are now finalising the names.
We expect that by the 16th, during the next sitting of Parliament, the names will be laid for debate,” Moonilal said.
