PM Kamla invites children to visit at official residence

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's first guests when she moves into the official residence will be 850 children from various homes throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

The underprivileged children will attend a free concert, which the Prime Minister is hosting specially for them as one of her first official acts on entering the home.

Press Secretary Garvin Nicholas told the Newsday newspaper the project is being done in conjunction with "Foundation for the Enhancement and Enrichment of Life (FEEL), who are coordinating and sending out the invitations to this concert. It is under the auspices of the Prime Minister.”

He added, “The concert itself will be a Lion King Production or Little Mermaid. One thousand children could be accommodated, and 150 adults will be required to supervise the children, but because of the limited space, only 850 children may be accommodated, and at the moment we are working out those logistics.”

Nicholas said Persad-Bissessar consider children the most important resource of the country.

He noted that the children selected as special guests have been traditionally neglected "and we wish to signal a change of direction in government policies towards our children."

Persad-Bissessar has a son and two granchildren
