A report in the Trinidad Guardian Tuesday cites well-placed government sources as confirming that Camille Robinson-Regis, Glenda Morean and other politically-appointed diplomats are to be replaced “shortly.”
Robinson-Regis is the country's top diplomat in Canada and Morean is Trinidad and Tobago's Ambassador to the The United States.
However, the paper said foreign minister Dr Suruj Rambachan declined comment on the report, saying only that he is studying a brief on the matter.
The Guardian said its sources said career diplomats are likely to remain at their posts and there are plans to establish a mission in Beijing, China.
The new government would also conduct a critical review of all diplomatic missions to ensure that foreign policy would be tied to trade and to cultural relations, the report stated.
The paper said the government’s aim is to boost the balance of trade and strengthen missions in places like Nigeria and India.
