The latest survey on national issues in Trinidad and Tobago suggests that the People's Partnership has the better lineup of candidates for the May 24 general election.
The poll by the ANSA McAL Psychological Research Centre of the University of the West Indies at St Augustine for The Trinidad Guardian asked respondents to state which better has the better slate.
A majority - 51 per cent - said the UNC coalition and 26 per cent chose the PNM. Fifteen per cent didn't know and eight per cent said none.
The poll suggests that there is still an ethnic preference. A full 71 per cent of those who chose the PNM were Afro-Trinidadians, 19 per cent mixed and ten per cent Indo-Trinidadians.
Of those who prefer the UNC coalition, 65 per cent of respondents were Indo-Trinidadians, 16 per cent Afro-Trinidadians and 16 per cent mixed.
Pollsters also asked people whether they believe parties would keep their promises.
A majority of 50 per cent said yes, 25 per cent said no and the same number didn't know.
The poll surveyed a representative random sample of 506. Respondents were 18 years and over with 37 per cent Afro-Trinidadians, 41 per cent Indo-Trinidadians, 21 per cent Mixed persons and one per cent other. It was done between May 6 and 9.
