Opposition Leader Kamla Persad- Bissessar is confident the Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) will win the two Tobago seats in the next general election.
Persad Bissessar made the comment after meeting in Tobago with TOP leader Ashworth Jack.
She said both parties will remain independent, and share political platforms when necessarily.
"I want to make it very clear that the UNC has no intention of taking over the TOP...or dictating to the TOP...It is Tobago and the TOP who would guide and tell us what it is that is needed in Tobago," she said.
Under the deal agreed between the two sides the UNC will not field candidates in Tobago.
TOP will appear on a UNC platform Monday when the UNC launches its campaign in Marabella.
Persad-Bissessar plans to meet Monday with the Political Leader of the Congress of the People (COP). Winston Dookeran reiterated Saturday that he is committed to uniting with the UNC and all Opposition forces for the 2010 general election.
Dookeran returned home from India on Friday night and immediately contacted Persad-Bissessar. Dookeran told local media the main focus is to seize "this historical opportunity" of defeating the PNM.
