Leaders of the United National Congress (UNC) and Congress of the People (COP) are calling UDeCOTT chairman Calder Hart to be fired immediately.
Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Winston Dookeran met at the Opposition Leader’s office in Port of Spain Friday.
Dookeran presented the UNC leader with copies of recent documents that show that Hart's wife, Sherrine Hart is related to directors of CH Development.
Hart in his roles as UDeCOTT chairman gave that company a $380 million contract for the construction of the Ministry Legal Affairs Tower. He has always denied a family link.
"Here is a matter of national concern in which evidence has been produced that establishes the need for immediate investigation.
"The evidence is also an affirmation of the charges which the PNM’s own Keith Rowley has been making all along, and for which he was so ridiculed and removed from the Cabinet," the opposition leader told reporters.
Persad-Bissessar told reporters on March 27 there will be a "Day of Reckoning" that would involve all interest groups in the country at which there will be a collective call for Hart’s immediate removal.
There will also be a demand for Government to instruct UDeCOTT to withdraw claims of bias against John Uff, chairman of the Commission of Inquiry into the construction sector and to launch an investigation into Hart, his wife and CH Development.
