The President of the Public Services Association (PSA) wants job guarantees in writing for the workers who are affected by the establishment of the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority (TTRA).
Watson Duke made the request during talks with the management company responsible for setting up the revenue agency.
The PSA has been staging daily lunch time protests and on Saturday the union will take part in a mass rally in Chaguanas dubbed the VOICE of the PEOPLE.
The meeting between the PSA, officials of the management company for the TTRA and the finance ministry met for two hours Tuesday to find common ground to deal with labour issues.
The government side is offering to allow the PSA to be the labour representatives for employees of the TTRA but the union would have to satisfy authorities that it has 50 per cent of the membership in keeping with the country's industrial relations conventions.
Duke said he dialogue can solve most problems so he is willing to give it a try. But he is not making any commitment until he sees positive movement.
