Read the story in NEWSDAY - Kamla urged to find role for Bas
On what basis does Ramsamooj conclude that if a meaningful role is not given to Panday, the new Persad-Bissessar led Team will be handicapped to effect political change?
May I remind him that Panday was overwhelmingly voted out of office by a margin of 10-1.
Prior to January 24, Panday’s antics and behaviour and pronouncements were nothing short of scandalous and unbecoming that of someone of his stature.
He was telling the Party that if the membership told him it was time to go, he shall do so with dignity; however, post January 24, he continued to be totally irrational, heaping scorn on the very people who had at one time literally “revered” the man.
He refused to acknowledge that he is no longer in charge, the results, the new Leader, the membership’s will and desire.
Panday’s desire right now is to destroy the UNC and its new leader and he has continually said they will not last six months.
Ramsamooj’s analysis is seriously flawed because he is endorsing exactly what
Panday has been saying and doing, i.e. the “voice” of the people is irrelevant.
The membership of the UNC has decided that it wanted nothing more to do with Panday and his loyalists, and Persad-Bissessar is faced with the daunting task of respecting and adhering to that mandate; anything less would constitute a betrayal of the people who put her there.
Panday has found himself in a position which he himself created, despite all the best advice given to him.
Ramsamooj is further mistaken when he suggests a similar role for Panday and compared what has occurred with former Jamaican Prime Minister PJ Patterson.
Patterson bowed out gracefully from active politics and has always played the role of elder statesman, both within his Party and the country. Panday has been doing exactly the opposite!
