Former UNC cabinet minister Sadiq Baksh told a magistrate Monday she should reject the testimony of Ronald Birk in the Piarco Airport corruption trial.
Birk was originally charged with Baksh and others but he cut a deal with the Trinidad and Tobago authorities to testify for the state.
Baksh is among six people accused of conspiring between, January 1, 1995 and December 31, 2001, to obtain contracts and payments of $1.6 billion during the construction of the new airport.
Co-accused Steve Ferguson has made a similar submission to the court. Both accused are arguing that it would be an abuse of process for Birk to testify in the case.
Baksh is arguing that he would not get a fair trial because Birk is not in a position to give independent evidence.
