Opposition Senator M.F. Rahman has offered his resignation to Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the new leader of the United National Congress (UNC).
Rahman had been staunch supporter of former UNC Leader Basdeo Panday and was highly critical of those who opposed Panday in the January 24 internal election, especially Persad-Bissessar and UNC Chairman, Jack Warner.
In his letter of resignation Rahman, who was appointed to the Senate by Panday, offered to continue to serve if asked.
Here is the Senator's letter:
The Honourable Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar,
Leader of the Opposition in The Parliament,
Red House,
Port of Spain.
Offer of resignation.
Dear Madam Leader of the Opposition,
Greetings and congratulations on your accession.
As a Senator appointed by your predecessor, and in deference to your authority, I hereby offer you my resignation in your capacity as the new incumbent now responsible for such appointments.
Should you see fit to accept this offer, I shall bow to your authority.
Should you feel otherwise, I remain happy to serve as before.
I await your instructions.
Yours faithfully,
MFRahman.
Senator.

This is very noble, this is the type of politics that we must encourage if we are to ever develop. This senator clearly understands what it means to do the honarable thing.
