Kamla to attend UNC "Thank You" party despite injury

The United National Congress (UNC) said Saturday political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar will attend Saturday's UNC "Thank You" event at the Rienzi Complex, despite her injury.

Persad-Bissessar fractured her shoulder Friday when she slipped and fell after tripping on the carpet in the tea room in Parliament. He was rushed to hospital by ambulance but doctors say while she remains in great pain, the injury is minor.

A spokesperson for the party said Persad-Bissessar decided to attend because too many people are expected at the party hoping to see her there so she cannot disappoint them.

"After all she invited all of them to say thanks, so it is only appropriate that she is there, even if her arm is in a sling," the spokesperson told JYOTI in an email from Trinidad.

The party, which features some of the biggest national names in popular entertainment, was planned shortly after the internal election in which Persad-Bissessar scored a 10-1 victory over Basdeo Panday for the leadership of the party.

Jack Warner won the party's chairmanship in a landslide victory over St Augustine MP Vasant Bharath.

The party's intention in holding the event is to say thanks to everyone for their support in the January 24 internal election, especially the UNC members who voted.
It promises to be a grand event with thousands attending.

No will be charged an admission fee.
