Poll predicts UNC will return Panday as UNC leader

A new survey by the North American Caribbean Teachers Association (NACTA) suggests that Basdeo Panday will be reelected leader of the United National Congress (UNC) in the January 24 internal election.

The random survey of 396 UNC members gives Panday 44 per cent. Ramesh L. Maharaj is 12 points behind with 32 per cent and Kamla Persad-Bissessar is last with only 17 per cent.

NACTA gives Persad-Bissessar low marks in several areas including her achievements, leadership and character weaknesses.

She also scored low her ability to unite the political opposition, which is perceived as one of her greatest strengths.

The survey suggested that only 30 per cent of respondents believe she can unite the opposition with 62 per cent saying she cannot do it.

Polls change daily, and with a sample size of less than 400 of tens of thousands of eligible voters, it is hard to put too much faith in it. It would be very interesting to compare the party poll with a national poll - might be a wake-up call for the UNC.

I wish those pollsters could just roll over and die. What is the objective behind these dotish polls? Many of these polls have been proven wrong over and over again, the culture in this country is not to be honest when participating in these polls, therefore they are all skewed, unintentionally of course, so I would not rely on any of them at all, and I do hope that other would not be too influenced by them either.
