Kamla accuses MPs of hypocrisy, calls them liars

Kamla Persad-Bissessar launched an attack on her fellow MPs Thursday night at a meeting in Down Village, California accusing them of being political opportunists who have no concern for the party, its leaders and the people.

In an emotional address to hundreds of supporters, she praised UNC leader Basdeo Panday but explained that he can no longer take the party out of opposition and return it to Whitehall.

She said some of those who continue to endorse Panday publicly are saying privately that they know he cannot win another election.

"Yet they say out of respect for “the chief” they cannot oppose him. My friends those people are doing the greatest disservice to you, to our party and to Mr. Panday himself," she said.

"Some of them who say we love Mr. Panday" are content to cling to his coat tails and "hopefully get elected again as an opposition MP. That’s what they want," she said.

"They want the recognition, to be called MP, to be called Senator, and drive on the bus route and park in reserved spots near the Red House. They only want to get a little salary and perks to look after themselves," she said.

"They don’t care about you; they don’t care about party and I say to you tonight, they LIE when they say they love our leader. THEY LIE. They love themselves. And they don’t care about YOU."

She said they are content through their selfishness to let Panday's legacy be destroyed.

"And the people who are helping make that happen are some of those MPs and Senators who are wearing their hearts on their sleeves and crying that Kamla is a neemakharan, Kamla has no respect for the chief, Kamla ungrateful.

"My brothers and sisters, Kamla is none of those things. I love Mr. Panday, but I love this country more. I cannot let them beat us in another election. You cannot let that happen. There is too much at stake.

"One more election is all Mr. Manning needs and if we don’t change our leader, rebuild our party and unite the opposition, we are doomed. All of us! We are doomed.

"Mr. Manning will establish a dictatorship, take away your rights and let his criminal community leaders roam the streets to rape your daughters and kill and plunder. That is what this election is all about," she said.

The Siparia MP said if the election was just about electing a leader she would never have bothered. "I would shut up and parade with Mr. Panday and give him basket."

She urged UNC members to think carefully about the great responsibility they carry and vote to change the leadership.

"Think carefully about what is happening in our party; think about what is happening in our nation; think about the poverty and suffering in this country and ask yourself if you want to end this."
