CL boss quits, will pursue other "business interests"

CL Financial announced Tuesday that international banker Steve Bideshi is leaving the organization after six months at chief executive officer.

The announcement came in a media statement from CL chairman Dr Shafeek Sultan-Khan who said Bideshi has completed his obligations as the interim CEO of the beleaguered group.

Bideshi returned home to Trinidad and Tobago last July to lead the day-to-day restructuring of CL Financial, which had been given a billion-dollar lifeline by the government.

Sultan-Khan said Bideshi is leaving at the end of the month and will be returning to the "pursuit of his other business interests".

CL's former chairman Lawrence Duprey sought and received government help a year ago after it could not repay depositors and policyholders hundreds of millions of dollars.
